The Tenor Of Curry

Oozing with faux-sincerity, it was difficult to keep watching AC this morning as she interviewed the parents of a shaken baby. Her very Clintonesque "I-feel-your-pain" style (without the smooth of The Natural) almost made us throw-up the breakfast bar we just ate.

It' s all too much for us to take:

the furrowed brow,

hand on the chin,

leaning so far forward in her chair she nearly fell out,

speaking about 2 octaves lower than usual,

calling the baby "sweet Jane".

At the end of the interview, she reached out -- ever so slowly -- and touched the baby's father on his knee . (If we were that baby's daddy we would have slapped her hand away so fast she wouldn't have known what hit her.)

After that catastrophe, AC forgot to switch from heartfelt-mode to happy-mode and entered a minute-long soliloquy about the tenor of Joss Stone's voice being reminiscent of Aretha Franklin (she said that last week too.)

Yes, we all hope and pray for sweet baby Jane's recovery BUT we're sorry, Ann: no amount of concern or compassion can make up for your journalistic incompetencies.

Remains of the day:
  • Favorite segment -- the hot-pink-haired-guy who made all of his furniture out of FedEx shipping boxes. His motto is "It's OK to be ghetto" and ended his interview by jumping up and down on his FedExBed. Check him out here.
  • If you think our blog is weird, you've got to check out these people. We're sure there will be more discussion of AC's hair later...

I can't believe this catastrophe hasn't ended yet. Curry is making me sick. I stewed during Curry's grossly insincere "sweet jane" episode (my prayers are with her, thanks to Ann's heartfelt plea). I raged when Curry couldn't deliver her heavily-scripted line about "the tenor in Joss Stone's voice is reminiscent...". But it was her laugh that finally caused me to turn off the tv and turn on NPR.

If you were to transcribe Curry's Today show laugh into text, you would write "HA-HA-HA!" Nobody laughs like that. That is a non-existent sound made up by comic-strip and sitcom writers who needed to put laughter on paper. When she says "HA HA HA" on the air, she is really saying "Now is the part of the show when I am supposed to have a humourous response to the events happening around me." My skin is crawling.

And now even more Ann Curry as co-host Dateline NBC? How many more segments on those quintuplets can she do?

For so long, I've felt alone in my loathing for AC. There are others of us out there!! This blog is fab! Anyway, AC could be a really nice person, great mom, all that... BUT THOSE INTERVIEWS! JUST SHUT UP WHY DON'T YOU AND LET THE PEOPLE TALK!!!

Most creepy interview flashback: Live for Today series and AC is shoving a microphone in this couple's face as they float down a canal in Venice (?), demanding that they seize the moment and suck face. Well, not in so many words, but I had to run screaming from the room on that one. Way to ruin a moment Ann. I'm sure this couple will have lingering memories of their trip. Talk about a nightmare!

Thanks IHAC! It's good to get that off my chest.

Oh, this blog is a dream come true.
This morning's reference to "Sweet Jane" was the second time in two days I've noticed Curry forgetting the subject's name (real name, as said ninety times by the child's parents, is Sarah Jane).

Hat tip to Campbell Morales: Gawker has a paragraph about Ann. Apparently the last line in the news headlines was about all the rain in Arizona,so when they tossed it over to Ann and Matt, Ann says, "But in other parts of Europe they need more rain, such as in Spain, where there are a lot of fires right now.” Uh Ann, Arizona is in the U.S. not Europe. HA HA HA!

Thank you for the Super-Hair.Net mention -- uh, we think.

You may be interested in knowing our Hair Watch on Ann won't last much longer. Check the Thursday entry to learn why.

"what goes around, comes around"
It will do well that anyone who thinks/does negative will get theirs in spades. And when you do get your payback, don't think "why me?!" Think "Oh I remember now what I did or said a while back..damn payback sure is hell".
It will happen to all of you sooner or later..and if I had the power, I'd make it sooner. Have fun and dish your dirt cause you will get yours.

This blog is crazy. LIke the others, I thought it was just me. I don't hate Ann Curry, and actually always liked her compassionate interviews. I started disliking her around the time Campbell Brown began subbing for Katie. AC showed her claws big time and it totally turned me off.
She just acts like she has too much caffeine one day and has a hanger in her mouth she's smiling so wide, then the next day she acts like she needs some Midol. It's eery. I have since began to like Campbell Brown more and more.

For months I've been thinking, I can NOT be the only person who Ann Curry irritates every morning!
I finally searched for a forum and I am so glad you guys are out there! Her phony sympathy in interviews including the voice and eye batting ~ it's enough to make you want to scream! And then the slip-ups reading the news. It's horrendous! Natalie Morales & Campbell Brown are WAY better than Ann.
And will she stop talking over the guests?!?!?! I can't stand her! Does NBC know this??? Honestly, if it wasn't for Matt and the fact I don't like my other options, I wouldn't watch at all. Thanks for letting me vent!

Wow, it is nearly 2 years later and AC is STILL on Today. She is worse than ever. Lately she's been "finger wagging" like somebody's mother. She is insufferable!

I'm writing this in October of 2007. I think you guys are really off base. I will watch only the hours of the Today Show that are minus Meredith Viera and have Ann Curry along with Al Roker hosting. Ann is the real deal. She has such a great voice and a kind spirit. I find nothing fakey about her at all.

I totally disagree. I find her a nice person and was suprised that anyone disliked her!

Curry has displayed a disturbing lack of emotional depth, which unfortunately has resonance in our narcissistic culture.
